Advertising will consistently outperform a la carte and subscription-based download services in terms of revenue generation and North America will be the largest revenue-generating region, accounting for 65% of the 2012 global total. Informa's Online TV and Video: Beyond User-Generated Content report, published today, has found that the trend towards online TV and video is symptomatic of wider cultural changes. A new 'breed' of consumers has emerged who find it difficult to align themselves with the passive model of traditional linear TV. The company's expanded broadband strategy includes a "unified search" function that will allow DVR viewers to search across broadcast, cable and broadband content sources and record any of them. Alviso, Calif.-based TiVo (TIVO) expects to implement its new service by the end of the year through an upgrade to the TiVo Desktop software. Shares were up 3.7% at $6.14 in morning trading. Last year, the company rolled out a feature that allowed TiVo recordings from televisions to be transferred to PCs. Personal convenience and avoiding commercials were the top reasons cited for online TV viewing, though 75% of those surveyed reported no change in traditional TV viewing habits.More than 62% of online TV viewers watch news broadcasts, while 50% say they seek entertainment programming.
